Whether you’re a fan of Richmond Ballet, or consider yourself an amateur, captivated by the artistic and technical skills required by the dancers, but don’t know where to start, We Call It Ballet is for you too. Ballet, its storytelling and the show
Dating back to the 15th century, the popular theatrical dance has evolved a lot since its beginnings in the Italian Renaissance courts, now boasting many types, methods and techniques. But some classical ballets like The Sleeping Beauty have remained timeless due to their ability to tell a story through dance.
We Call It Ballet honors the centuries-old tale of Princess Aurora, and adds a couple of new features to heighten the experience for everyone. Besides the professional ballerinas, the show also will have a narrator on hand to make the story easily understandable. What’s more, the changing LED-lights sewn into the dancers’ costumes are also there to set the tone of the scene, with each color symbolizing a distinct emotion and feeling.
